Why is 1901 Armagnac so rare?

After more than 124 years of natural evaporation (the angel's share: 3 to 5% per year in cask), only a tiny fraction of the original volume distilled in 1901 remains. These bottles survived both world wars and all the convulsions of the 20th century—each bottle is a miracle of preservation.
