Armagnac 1914 – Historic Spirits

An exceptional selection of spirits and natural sweet wines from the 1914 vintage — Armagnac, Banyuls, Maury and Rivesaltes born in the very year of the outbreak of the Great War.

1914 Armagnac: distilled in the year the world plunged into war

1914 - on June 28, Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip. Within a few weeks, a mechanism of alliances dragged the entire continent of Europe into the most devastating war in its history. General mobilization was declared in France on August 2 - all able-bodied men left for the front. The Tour de France, held for the last time in July, would be suspended until 1919. On the roads of Gascony, it was the women, children, and elderly who harvested and distilled in silence, while their sons fell in the trenches. In cinema, D.W. Griffith filmed The Birth of a Nation - an absolute technical revolution that invented the modern cinematic language: parallel editing, close-ups, tracking shots. On the roads of Flanders and the Marne, Allied soldiers sang "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" - a melancholic anthem for a sacrificed generation. After 112 years of aging in Gascon oak barrels, 1914 Armagnacs are artifacts of a vanished era: rancio of absolute historical intensity, sacred incense, ancient resin, spices from another world. Living witnesses to the beginning of the Great War.
