1970 Armagnac: born in the year of Pelé in Mexico, the Beatles' breakup, and Apollo 13

1970 - a year of legends and endings. In June, the World Cup was played in Mexico under a scorching sun: Pelé’s Brazil was quite simply the greatest team in the history of football. Jairzinho scored in every match of the tournament - a unique feat. Pelé won his 3rd world title, and Brazil kept the Jules Rimet Trophy permanently. In April, the Beatles announced their separation - the end of a musical era that had begun in Liverpool ten years earlier. Let It Be was released as a final testament. Simon & Garfunkel recorded Bridge Over Troubled Water, one of the greatest songs of the 20th century, before they too went their separate ways. On April 11, Apollo 13 lifted off for the Moon: two days later, an explosion on the spacecraft forced the crew to improvise a survival return - "Houston, we have a problem" passed into legend. Jimi Hendrix died on September 18 at 27, and Janis Joplin on October 4, also at 27: the birth of the 27 Club, the myth of creativity burning its life away. In Gascony, the vineyard produced a vintage of beautiful depth. After 56 years of aging in Gascon oak barrels, the 1970 Armagnacs offer a complex and enveloping aromatic profile: blond tobacco, leather, candied fruits, vanilla, and confirmed rancio. A vintage of great depth.
