In 1900, there were about a hundred distilleries in Guadeloupe. By 1939, there were only 55 agricultural distilleries and 15 industrial rum factories. Today, in 2019, there are only 9 agricultural distilleries left, all almost centenarian family-run businesses, and one industrial rum factory. In Guadeloupe, we differentiate ourselves from Martinique by the independent nature of our distilleries. Only the Bonne Mère distillery-sugar refinery, an industrial unit, and the Bellevue Distillery in Marie-Galante belong to a group. The MARSOLLE Heirs from Father to Son Nestled in the first foothills of the Petit-Bourg plain, our Distillery borders the road of the hamlet after which it is named "Carrère". Its imposing structure immediately suggests a more contemporary history, although it was built in 1930, after enduring the harsh periods of World War II, it changed hands while continuing to produce. It was in 1966 that Jean MARSOLLE and his son Alain acquired the establishment, whose grinding workshop's production did not exceed 3 tons per hour! Born in 1936 in Saint-Claude, Guadeloupe, Alain MARSOLLE joined the "Jesuits" school in Toulouse in 1945 where he trained as an industrial designer. Returning to Guadeloupe at the age of 19, he began his sugar career in 1962 with the companies "Sainte-Marthe" and "Gardel". In 1968, with his father, he embarked on a career as a distiller, and it would be another seven years before a new, more efficient entity was born.
