1910 Armagnac: distilled at the twilight of the Belle Époque, the year of Lapize on the Tourmalet
1910 - the Belle Époque is drawing to a close without yet knowing it. Cinema is exploding worldwide: Pathé dominates the global industry with more than 10,000 theaters in France, and D.W. Griffith is shooting in Hollywood at a frantic pace - 200 films in just a few years. Ragtime is sweeping from the United States into European music halls, and Irving Berlin is composing the foundations of what will become jazz. On the roads of the Tour de France, Octave Lapize climbs the Pyrenean passes included in the route for the first time - Tourmalet, Aubisque, Peyresourde, Aspin - and shouts to the organizers "You are murderers, yes, murderers!" before going on to win the Tour. King Edward VII of England dies in May, ending the Edwardian era - the last monarch of an age of peace and prosperity. In Mexico, the revolution erupts against dictator Porfirio Diaz. Just four years before the Great War, France still lives in the insouciance of the Belle Époque: Gascon winemakers distill in peace, the cafes are full, and artists are living it up. These 1910 barrels carry within them the last innocence of a world that is about to disappear. After 116 years of aging in Gascon oak barrels, the 1910 Armagnacs are of absolutely unique rarity and depth: rancio of historical intensity, sacred incense, ancient resin, and spices from another era. Living artifacts of the fading Belle Époque.
