The first merchant breeder was Léonce LAFONTAN (1865-1939), originally a horse dealer, who in addition to being a winegrower became a merchant-breeder in 1897 by founding the LAFONTAN House. Thus, Maison LAFONTAN was one of the pioneers in selling Armagnac in bottles. It was in 1904 that he created the "VEUVE LAFONTAN & ses Enfants" range in homage to his deceased mother.
