The first merchant breeder was: Léonce LAFONTAN (1865-1939), originally a horse merchant, who, in addition to being a winegrower, became a Merchant-Breeder in 1897 by founding the LAFONTAN House. His primary activity, and knowledge of the region, allowed him to make a meticulous selection for the purchase of old Armagnacs from the best crus. This is how Maison LAFONTAN was one of the pioneers in the sale of bottled Armagnac. It was in 1904 that he created the "VEUVE LAFONTAN & ses Enfants" range in homage to his late mother.
