The first négociant-éleveur was Léonce LAFONTAN (1865-1939). Originally a horse merchant, in addition to being a winemaker, he became a Négociant-Éleveur in 1897 by founding the LAFONTAN House. His primary activity, and his knowledge of the region, allowed him to make meticulous choices for the purchase of old Armagnacs from the best crus.
