The first merchant breeder was: Léonce LAFONTAN (1865-1939), originally a horse merchant, who, in addition to being a winegrower, became a Merchant - Breeder in 1897 by founding the Maison LAFONTAN. His primary activity, and knowledge of the region, allowed him to make a meticulous choice for the purchase of old Armagnacs from the best crus. This is how Maison LAFONTAN was one of the pioneers in the sale of Armagnac in bottles. It was in 1904 that he created the "VEUVE LAFONTAN & ses Enfants" range in homage to his deceased mother.
