The Cognac production area covers the departments of Charente and Charente-Maritime, as well as a few communes in Deux-Sèvres and Dordogne. Ugni Blanc is the main grape variety used to produce Cognac. To a lesser extent, the Colombard and Folle Blanche grape varieties are sometimes used.
