AOC ARMAGNAC - APPELLATION ARMAGNAC CONTROLÉE
Three terroirs - three departments
The Terroirs
The HAUT ARMAGNAC
The terroir of Haut-Armagnac or "white Armagnac" is characterized by limestone soils. Armagnacs from this terroir offer delicately fruity notes, but they represent only a tiny portion of the production. Indeed, the plains are also suitable for cereal cultivation.
The TÉNAREZE
In the central part of the AOC ARMAGNAC, Ténarèze Armagnacs have predominantly clay-limestone soils. Armagnacs from this region are known for their power and often reveal their full potential after a long aging period in oak barrels.
The BAS-ARMAGNAC
The terroir of Bas-Armagnac or "black Armagnac" extends over very fine silt and tawny sands. The Armagnacs produced are world-renowned for their great finesse.
